THE DISCOVERY OF VALUES IN MOVIES

Movies have been part of our life since it includes and illustrates some elements which cause a change in every human being. I am very sure most of us have their very favourite movie. It can be either two or more than ten. But, there is always one that changed us in some perspective which brought in a deep impact and make us to be compact. Movies can be from any genres such as horror, mystery, comedy, thriller, sci-fi, romance and so on. People watch movies based on their preferences on certain elements which they do find it useful. Movies are been made all over the world based on different culture and values. There is Hollywood, Bollywood and so on. My favourite movie is ‘Sholay’ which was a blockbuster hit of Bollywood film in the 70’s. The movie tells us the value of friendship, love and life. In the small village of Ramgarh, the retired policeman summons a pair of small-time thieves that he had once arrested. The policeman feels that the duo thieves would be ideal to help him capture a dacoit wanted by the authorities for a 50,000 as reward. The policeman tells them to surrender dacoit to him, alive, for an additional 20,000 reward. The two thieves prevent the dacoits sent by the leader to extort the villagers. Soon afterwards, the dacoit’s leader and his goons attack Ramgarh, a village during the festival of Holi. In a tough battle, the two thieves  are cornered. The policeman, although he has a gun within his reach, does not help them. The two thieves fight back and the bandits flee. The two are, however, upset at Thakur's inaction, and consider leaving the village. The retired policeman explains that dacoit had killed nearly all of his family members, and cut off both his arms a few years earlier, which is why he could not use the gun. He had concealed the dismemberment by always wearing a shawl. Living in Ramgarh, one the jovial thief and cynical as the other one find themselves growing fond of the villagers. One of the thief is attracted to ‘Basanti’, a feisty, talkative young woman who makes her living by driving a horse-cart. Another one is drawn to Radha, The policeman’s reclusive, widowed daughter-in-law, who subtly returns his affections. Skirmishes between dacoit gang and the two thieves finally result in the capture by the dacoits. Jai attacks the gang, and the three are able to flee hideout with dacoits in pursuit. Fighting from behind a rock, the thieves nearly run out of ammunition. One of the thief was unaware that his friend was wounded in the gunfight, is forced to leave for more ammunition. Meanwhile, the injured friend, who is continuing the gunfight singlehandedly, decides to sacrifice himself by using his last bullet to ignite dynamite sticks on a bridge from close range. His friend returned, and his injured friend dies in his arms. Enraged, his friend attacks the dacoits and caught him. He nearly beats the dacoit to death when the policeman appeared and reminded him of the promise to hand over the dacoit alive. The policeman used his spike-soled shoes to severely injure the dacoit and destroy his hands. The police force then arrived and arrested the dacoit. After his friend’s funeral, the thief leaves Ramgarh and finds Basanti waiting for him on the train. Radha is left alone again. This particular story gave me some elements of values on friendship. Friends are our next brothers and sisters. In any situation, there are the one next to us to feel us. In my scenario of living, I have come across many things which made me to feel up and down. My friends are always there for me to motivate me and balance my emotions as well as made me to think twice and wise. The love for all plays a very vital role whether friends, family or beloved. The love for everyone brings an identity which lasts forever. Fight for rights is another thing to learn from this movie. The movie portrayed the rights via developing a union. It’s true that too many hands spoil a game but if there are too many ideas, it creates a great fame. It is a great movie that shows loyalty towards friendship. I wish for those who need to learn more about friendship will find this movie as a useful resource.
